BIO

Neko Bailey (born 1990, in Lucea, Jamaica) is a contemporary painter based in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He works primarily in oil on canvas and linen, drawing inspiration from the techniques and visual language of the Old Masters. Bailey is best known for his use of approximate symmetry, centralized lighting, and paired figures and animals to explore perceptions of balance between order and chaos, while encouraging analytical interpretations of visual clues, symbolism, and cultural and historical motifs.

Bailey’s practice investigates concepts rooted in human consciousness, including classism, cultural identity, materialism, social mobility, and the cyclical nature of time, examining how these forces shape individual and collective behaviour. His paintings are characterized by carefully constructed compositions, controlled illumination, and symbolic imagery that invite viewers to consider the relationships between individuals, society, history, and identity. His Then Till Now Debut Solo Exhibition marked his emergence as a serious and passionate artist, presenting thought-provoking works concerned with human consciousness and its influence on the environment, relationships, and identity. Alongside his studio practice, Bailey is an educator who has taught Visual Arts in Jamaica for more than a decade and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Neko Bailey has participated in exhibitions and artistic activities in Jamaica and is represented in various private and international collections. His practice continues to develop through his engagement with contemporary painting, education, and sustained investigations into the complexities of human consciousness, culture, and society.
